Web design encompasses a variety of disciplines and skills in the creation and maintenance of web sites. These skills can be broken down into five key areas. They include graphic design; web programming; information technology; interaction design; and user experience design. All of these areas have subtopics including website functionality, site reliability, site ranking, and conversion optimisation.

Graphic Design deals with the arrangement and presentation of images on a page. The arrangement of graphics and text is to be determined by the end use of the website and the audience for whom it is being used. When choosing a web designer, one should bear in mind that "clean and crisp" is not necessarily the same thing as "user-friendly." A user-friendly web designer is one who creates web designs and web interfaces that are easy to use. Clean and crisp web designs require less clutter and allow the viewer to focus on the content of the page.

Web Programming refers to the ability of the web designer to create interactive web pages that are able to display properly on different type of devices. These include but are not limited to iPhone, Smart Phone, Desktop, tablets and other devices that are commonly used in households. CSS and HTML are the most common languages used in web programming, although there are several other languages that are equally useful. Responsive web design is one of these technologies. It allows for a website to be viewed properly regardless of the screen resolution of the users' computer. Check out this site for web design insights.

User Interface Design encompasses how a user will interact with the website. It includes but is not limited to the appearance of a website, e-mail functionalities, and contact information such as a contact form. User experience is about the satisfaction of a customer. A good user experience incorporates an interface that is usable, attractive, easy to navigate and focuses on the main goals of the website. An example of a user experience might be a website that has flexible background images that change with the color of the background color or the size of the font.

In terms of media queries, a media query is a specification on what media should be displayed in a web design. The media query specify what type of image should be used for an image; the dimensions of the image; how it should be displayed and what size it should be. The background of a website is the first thing that users see, so it is important to make sure that the website is viewable on all devices. There are four main responsive web design tools that should be used to ensure a wide array of devices.

Flexbox is a CSS property that makes it possible to flexibly display various elements in a website without making them appear chopped off. It is a subset of media queries. Webkit browsers that support Flexbox include Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Opera. Web developers should ensure that they use CSS flexion properties to achieve the best user experience for their site. Take a look at this post https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_design expounding more on the topic.
